It's a 4th of July I will never forget. And neither will our guests. Our celebration began normally, but it ended with someone yelling at me, “That one nearly killed you, Steve!”

Dear Behzad: A Letter From My Daughter to My Spiritual Father Before His Death
My youngest daughter, Laura, who had never met him, asked me if she could also write him an email. And she did. He told me later that words cannot express how much her email meant to him just before his open-heart surgery. Little did any of us know that Behzad would keep Laura’s2014 letter and draw great comfort from reading it again prior to his death last week. Behzad wanted me to share Laura’s letter with his family and friends again. So, here it is:
Reflections On The Passing Of My Spiritual Father: Behzad Pakizegi
My spiritual father's departure from this life came last night. He is now with Christ and no longer suffering. I'll never forget the first time I met him in the Fall of 1973. I had gone with friends to disrupt a floor meeting in my freshman dormitory advertised as a presentation of the claims and credentials of Christ. After we disrupted the meeting, suddenly, a dark bearded Middle Eastern man stood up and walked toward us, carrying a Bible and smiling broadly.
A Memorial Day Tribute to My Uncle Lloyd: Shot Down in Battle of Midway
My family has a strong military background. My paternal grandfather, Fred Childers, experienced the horror of war as a combat medic in World War I. All three of his sons followed him in military service to their country. His oldest two sons, my uncles Lloyd and Wayne, served in the Navy and Marines and fought in the historic Battle of Midway. His youngest son, my father Lee, served in the Air Force and flew in the Berlin Airlift.

How Do I Forgive Someone Who Wronged Me? (Managing Conflict, Part 6)
Forgiveness is not merely a feeling. It is primarily a decision, an act of the will, that God calls you to make, often in spite of your feelings. Forgiveness is always costly, just like it cost God something great, in his Son, to forgive you. It will always cost you something great to forgive someone else. The person who has wronged you is in your debt until you decide to release that debt you've been holding on to. Forgiveness is a costly choice for you, but a choice that always pays the giver rich dividends.
How Do I Engage in Conflict with Wisdom? (Managing Conflict, Part 4)
We should always seek first to overlook the offenses of others. But sometimes it becomes necessary to talk with others about their failures.
How Do I Manage Conflict? (Managing Conflict, Part 3)
There is a big difference between constructive criticism and sinful antagonism. Some leaders become unnecessarily paranoid when others disagree with them.
How Do I Redeem Conflict? (Managing Conflict, Part 2)
When faced with conflict, the first question we should ask ourselves is “How can I best honor God and love this person?"
How Do I Understand Conflict? (Managing Conflict, Part 1)
Having personal conflict with others is an inevitable part of ministry. The question is not whether you will face conflict, it's simply when you will face it and how you will respond. In this session you’ll learn about key dynamics involved in conflict to help you answer the question, “How do I understand the danger and hope in my conflict?”.
How Can I Confirm My Call to be a Leader? (Calling, Part 5)
There’s no secret formula for learning how to confirm your call to be a church leader. However, biblical principles, godly wisdom and real-life experience can help you confirm you call to church leadership.
What are the Four Elements that Confirm a Call to Church Leadership? (Calling, Part 4)
We're going to look at four elements, and we will call them true spirituality element number one, and then proven ability, number two, element three would be virtuous affinity, and then the last one, four, would be confirmed opportunity. These are concepts that sum up the major characteristics of someone we would call a church leader.
Am I Called by God to be a Church Leader? (Calling, Part 3)
God gives a very specific secondary calling to equip God’s people to do the work of the ministry.
